ASNR hosts the Dutch nuclear safety authority for a training on filtration at its Saclay site
From 7 to 9 July 2026, ASNR welcomed a delegation of experts from the Dutch Authority for Nuclear Safety and Radiation Protection (ANVS) to its Saclay research and expertise center for a training course and workshop on the filtration of aerosols and iodine, completed by a visit to PERSEE and STRARMANIA facilities.
Effective filtration is essential for protecting people and the environment from the release of radioactive substances. Building on previous technical exchanges on filtration efficiency, ANVS experts came to Saclay to benefit from ASNR's scientific expertise, laboratories, and experimental facilities in this field.
Over two complementary sessions, the programme combined theoretical basis with practical exercises and visits to ASNR's experimental facilities (Soleiman BOURROS and Mouheb CHEBBI), before addressing engineering requirements (Manon BILLAUD and Audrey COURTIAL) and regulatory inspection practice (Stephane SIBELLAS). Topics covered static and dynamic containment principles, the performances and periodic controls of trapping devices (HEPA filters and iodine traps), ventilation and filtration systems under fire conditions, environmental discharge monitoring, and inspection practices within the French regulatory framework.
The training gave the visiting experts additional knowledge to support the review, assessment and inspection of nuclear facilities in the Netherlands.
The workshop reflects ASNR's commitment to international services and knowledge-sharing between European nuclear safety and radiation protection authorities, and the role of its research and technical-support activities in strengthening safety across borders.
