The role of ASNR is to evaluate and assess nuclear and radiological risks, both in terms of nuclear safety and the protection of health and the environment from ionizing radiation.
As such, ASNR experts assess the safety of nuclear facilities – reactors, fuel cycle plants, laboratories, research and radioactive waste storage facilities – at every stage of their lifecycle, from design to decommissioning.
In particular, they assess dossiers submitted by nuclear facility operators. They constantly analyze feedback from facility operations, as well as the exposure of people and the environment to radiation.
The results of its research programs and studies, the analysis of feedback from events that occur in facilities and transport, and the lessons learned from previous safety assessments, all feed into its expert assessment work.
