ASNR publishes its roadmap for dialogue with society
In the context of new nuclear projects and technological innovations, particularly in the fields of healthcare and climate change, the importance of transparency and dialogue has never been greater.
In this respect, ASNR has decided to publish its roadmap dedicated to dialogue with society, after receiving advice from the High Committee for Transparency and Information on Nuclear Security (HCTISN). This strategic document sets out how ASNR organises, strengthens and renews its exchanges with all stakeholders concerned with nuclear safety and radiation protection.
Dialogue with society is a key lever for the ASNR: it informs its research and expert assessment, strengthens the robustness of its decisions, and helps citizens better understand nuclear and radiation protection issues so that they can form their own opinions.
This roadmap serves a dual purpose. On the one hand, it reflects the Nuclear Safety Authority’s commitment to placing transparency, openness and participation at the heart of its work as an independent Authority. On the other hand, it meets the requirements of the legislator, who recognises that nuclear safety and radiation protection are matters of public interest and a common good.
The development of this roadmap for dialogue with society stems from this commitment to aligning ASNR’s scientific and technical needs with the interests, concerns, challenges and contributions of stakeholders.
It draws on more than twenty years of experience in facilitating discussions on complex issues.
ASNR has taken into account the insights of the HCTISN as set out in its Opinion No. 18, as well as proposals from, in particular, the CLIs and the ANCCLI, long-standing partners in the dialogue.
More than just an ambition, this roadmap sets out the priority themes of the dialogue, structured around key milestones in decision-making, expert assessment and research, whether concerning safety issues linked to major industrial projects or those of radiation protection in the environment and health. It proposes participation methods adapted to the issues at stake, the target audiences and territories, to ensure a continuum of participation. Finally, it incorporates ASNR’s contribution to the development of a culture of radiation protection among the public.
This roadmap aims to equip everyone – citizens, elected officials, NGOs, experts and stakeholders in the business sector – with the tools to understand, question and contribute to issues relating to nuclear safety and radiation protection.
