ASNR meets its counterpart PAA on the occasion of the First Franco Polish bilateral summit
On the occasion of the first Franco Polish bilateral summit, held in Gdańsk on 20 April 2026, ASNR met with its Polish counterpart, PAA (the Polish Nuclear Safety Authority). The meeting took place during a presidential visit focusing on the implementation of the Treaty of Nancy, signed on 9 May 2025, which aims to strengthen relations between France and Poland. ASNR and PAA took part in discussions on cooperation in the fields of energy and civil nuclear power.
These discussions, introduced by Ms Maud Bregeon, Government Spokesperson to the Prime Minister and Minister Delegate in charge of Energy, and her Polish counterpart Mr Wojciech Wrochna, Deputy Minister of Energy, provided an opportunity for representatives of the French nuclear sector - Ms Anne Isabelle Étienvre, CEO of the CEA, and Mr Bernard Fontana, Chairman and CEO of EDF—and their Polish counterparts to reaffirm the close bilateral and multilateral cooperation between the two countries in the field of civil nuclear energy, as well as their shared intention to develop new partnerships.
Mr Paweł Pytlarczyk, Vice President of PAA, underscored the quality of the relations maintained with ASNR. In particular, he indicated that PAA would shortly certify ASNR, as it had previously certified IRSN prior to its merger with ASN on 1 January 2025, to carry out technical assessments in support of PAA.
For his part, Mr Luc Chanial, International Adviser to the Executive Committee of ASNR, confirmed the close ties between ASNR and PAA. He stated that ASNR stands ready, if necessary, to support PAA in the performance of its regulatory authority missions, both in regulatory matters and in the field of technical expertise.
Recalling the current nuclear context, which presents significant challenges for all parties concerned, he more broadly emphasized the importance of exchanges between nuclear safety authorities. He also noted that keeping nuclear safety at the heart of decision making is a prerequisite for the development of nuclear energy and its acceptance by society. Finally, he stressed that nuclear safety and industrial performance should be viewed as mutually reinforcing, rather than being set in opposition.
