ASNR visits South Korea

An ASNR mission to South Korea in early November 2025 focused on inspection practices and the coordination of cooperation activities with ASNR’s Korean main partners in nuclear safety.

From 3 to 5 November 2025, inspectors from ASNR’s Bordeaux Division, together with officers from ASNR’s International Directorate (DI), held exchanges on inspection practices with their Korean counterparts from NSSC (Nuclear Safety and Security Commission), KINS (Korea Institute of Nuclear Safety) and KOFONS (Korea Foundation of Nuclear Safety). Technical seminars and visits at the Saeul NPP and at the Doosan Radiographic testing facility provided an opportunity to better understand each other’s regulatory inspection systems and share experience. This visit is part of a longstanding cooperation programme on inspection practices between ASNR’s Bordeaux division and NSSC’s Kori regional office.

On 5 and 6 November 2025, DI officers held meetings with NSSC, KINS and KAERI (Korea Atomic Energy Research Institute) at their respective headquarters in Seoul and Daejon. These meetings aimed at coordinating ongoing and future cooperation activities, in particular the organisation of two technical seminars respectively with KINS and KAERI and the next high-level ASNR - NSSC bilateral meeting to be held in France in the second half of 2026.

ASNR maintains a close cooperation with several Korean actors in the field of nuclear safety and radiation protection including the nuclear safety regulator NSSC, its technical support organisation KINS and the nuclear research organisation KAERI.
