ASNR participates in the IAEA International Conference on Nuclear Emergency Preparedness and Response (EPR 2025)

From 1 to 4 December 2025, a delegation of five ASNR members, led by Commissioner  Jean-Luc Lachaume, took part in the IAEA EPR 2025 Conference in Riyadh (Saudi Arabia).

Hosted by Saudi Arabia’s Nuclear and Radiological Regulatory Commission (NRRC), this conference brought together 900 participants and was followed online by more than 7,000 people, making it the most significant IAEA conference in recent years.

ASNR’s work in emergency management was particularly highlighted through session chairmanships, presentations covering its various fields of expertise, and a keynote speaker position.

Drawing on its experience, ASNR addressed international cooperation and coordination during emergencies (presentation by Stéphane Defour, Security and emergency preparedness and response officer), innovative strategies for treating radiation-induced injuries in accidents involving large numbers of victims (presentation by Radia Tamarat, Head of scientific project), post-accident work carried out in France with CODIRPA (presentation by Riad Idir, Project manager for emergency situations and post-accident Management) and ASNR's approach to technical advances in crisis exercise scenarios (presentation by Olivier Isnard, Deputy Executive Director for Emergency preparedness and response).

In his keynote address, Commissioner Lachaume urged the participating countries at the Conference to strengthen their efforts regarding the robustness of emergency management plans, the necessary involvement of stakeholders and the public in emergency preparedness, and the improvement of international cooperation in nuclear emergency situations.
